Five days. It was five days of tapas, cheap beer and above all, five days of being able to communicate and socialize with travelers from around the world.
I love talking, but more importantly, I love meeting new people. Living and working where I do, it is not every day that I get to meet new people from around the globe, and pick their brains as to what adventure they are setting themselves on.
I was also excited to use my Spanish skills (rusty as they are). As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog post, living in Morocco and constantly relying on other people’s language skills led to feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by my language isolation.
In Spain, I loved not having to rely on others to communicate i.e. with a taxi driver, ordering food or asking for directions. It’s a strange sort of independence that can only be achieved by communicating (in some form of at least basic proficiency) in the language of that country.
But enough language talk. Back to Spanish tapas!
We visited so many beautiful cathedrals and ultimately ended up in Tarifa, a small coastal town that runs a ferry to Tangier in Morocco as this was how we would get back. Spain opened my eyes to more possibilities. It was the perfect vacation, and it was sorely needed at that time as well.

I look forward to the next time I can eat jamon, serenaded by beautiful guitar music!

beautiful Spain……..
